Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening Treatments?

Over the years teeth collect deposits and superficial stains which cause them to appear yellowish.

Teeth also discolour with ageing because of the thinning of the enamel. This exposes the layer underneath called dentin which is naturally yellow.

However, there’s no need to feel self-conscious about your appearance and hide your smile. Teeth whitening is a process which uses a high concentration of hydrogen peroxide to turn your teeth from a yellow to 8 shades whiter with just one visit to the dentist or by using a professional take-home kit.

In-Chair Treatment?

At DFY Dental, we help you restore your stained or yellow teeth to their former gleaming set of pearly white teeth which will retain their brightness over time.

You will feel confident, happy and charm those around you with your smile.

How It Works

The in-chair process involves the following steps:

  • Your mouth will be prepared for the Zoom whitening process with a professional clean to remove any food particles from their surface.
  • A retractor is fitted to protect your mouth and throat as well as to hold your mouth open throughout the whitening process. A protective coating is also applied to your gums.
  •  The required amount of teeth-whitening is prepared and applied to your teeth.
  • Blue LED light is used to activate the liquid gel and speed the whitening process.
  • The process is repeated thrice during the sitting which takes around 45 minutes
  •  Once the desired shade is reached, the dentist applies a post-treatment gel to protect tooth enamel and reduce sensitivity.

Take-Home Kits?

Teeth Whitening take-home kits are the perfect solution to a whiter and brighter smile from the convenience of your home in one to two weeks. These kits are safe, affordable and cause little to no sensitivity.

The first step is to book a consultation with a dentist at our clinic.

Upon examination of your teeth, your take-home teeth whitening kit will be prepared and clear instructions will be provided on how you need to whiten your teeth at home.

There are two types of home teeth-whitening kits – Day Whitening Kit and Night Whitening Kit.

The kits have different formulas and your dentist will advise you on their proper usage.

Day Whitening Kit

The Day Whitening Kit is ideally suited for you if you prefer to wear the trays for short periods of 30-90 minutes, once a day. Available in different strengths, you can expect your teeth to look up to 6 shades whiter within two weeks.

Night Whitening Kit

The Night Whitening Kit is a preferred option if you would like to leave your trays on overnight while you sleep.

The trays can also be used during the day, however, they will need to be kept on for 2-4 hours.

Results of using the Night Whitening Kits are comparable to the Day Whitening Kits and you can expect your teeth to look up to 6 shades whiter within six weeks.

How It Works

The procedure for using Day Whitening and Night Whitening Kits are the same, the only difference being when and for how long the trays are to be worn.

With the Day Whitening Kits, the trays need to be worn twice a day, and you can space the treatments out by wearing the trays once in the morning and once in the evening.

The Night Whitening Kit trays are best worn before going to bed and can be removed upon waking up in the morning.

The following process is to be followed:

  • Brush teeth with regular toothpaste as normal
  • Insert a drop of tooth-whitening gel in each impression of the trays
  • Place the trays gently over your teeth
  • Leave the trays on for the time prescribed by your dentist
  • Remove the trays and wash them thoroughly with tap water
  • Brush teeth normally with toothpaste

Is teeth whitening safe?

Teeth-whitening treatments comply with stringent safety tests and clinical studies have shown the use of carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide under a dental practitioner’s supervision is safe for teeth and gums.

Does teeth whitening have any side effects?

The most common side-effect of teeth whitening is sensitivity. However, modern teeth-whitening products contain mild desensitising agents designed to minimise tooth and gum sensitivity.

Your dentist will ensure whether you are suited for treatment and the right concentration of whitening agent is used for your treatment.

How long do the results of teeth whitening last?

Our teeth-whitening treatment is customised to your needs and the results can last for 12-24 months depending on how well the teeth are cared for.

The consumption of coffee, soft drinks, smoking, and poor lifestyle choices can cause teeth to become quickly discoloured again.

Using take-home and top-up products can help in reducing the fade-back effect of teeth-whitening.

Which Teeth-Whitening method is best?

Your dentist is the best person to recommend the best teeth-whitening solution for you. Your lifestyle, budget and the results you seek to achieve are some important factors which will determine which method is suitable for you.

How can you keep teeth white once the treatment is completed?

Your dentist will give you instructions on what you need to do to keep your teeth looking white for a long time. In addition to this, you can use a whitening electric toothbrush and take-home top-up kit.
